Maruti Vitara Brezza Overview
The typical SUV feel that the Maruti Vitara Brezza offers, is liked by many. This is the highest selling SUV because of the peace of mind one gets with the Maruti brand. The Brezza has become an even more attractive product with the introduction of the AMT. This is sure to increase volumes for the already best selling SUV. There will be more players coming into this segment and thus we will see fiercer competition. The Indian manufacturer has launched the AMT in 3 variants in the Maruti Vitara Brezza. This is the AMT (Automated Manual Transmission) version or Auto Gear Shift, as Maruti have termed it. There has been a high number of bookings already for the AMT version. Previously sold with a 5-speed manual only, the Vitara Brezza now another option offered. The Maruti Vitara Brezza AMT seems to be good value and also a convenient option. Maruti Vitara Brezza Design
As far as the looks are concerned, the only difference in the 2018 update are the black alloy wheels, which are now available in the Z and Z+ variants. They replace the older gray ones but the shape and size remains the same. In our opinion, the black ones do look better. Also, this orange colour is a new addition, replacing the older blue. Then there is the chrome strip on top of the license plate, which was earlier available only in the top end variant but is now available across the range. Everything else like the boxy SUV shape, LED light guides, floating roof design and the large glass area which made the Brezza a hit in the first place is still the same.
Over to the side, you’d instantly notice the floating roof effect Maruti is trying to pull off. The A, B and C pillars are blacked out, thereby giving the impression that the roof ‘floats’ over the car. There’s a fair bit of part sharing you’ll notice too. For e.g: the outside mirrors and the door handles are the exact same ones found on the Swift / Dzire / Ertiga. Boot space is rated at a respectable 328 litres. While it isn’t as much as the TUV3OO, it still is a decent amount of storage space for something that is as compact as the Vitara Brezza.
Maruti Vitara Brezza Cabin
First thing you would notice about the cabin is the comfortable ingress and egress. You just walk inside the cabin, which is also a boon for people having knee problems. The three spoke steering wheel looks familiar but the dashboard is entirely new. There is a neat looking centre console which is enclosed with a gloss black outline. The dashboard is all black but gets silver elements in the middle. The air vents are sizeable and the auto climate control works really well to cool the cabin quickly. The lower half of the centre console has well laid out uncluttered buttons which feel nice and premium to use. Overall quality of the cabin is good but in some places you might find hard plastics and components (window controls, steering stalks) that are shared with older Maruti cars.
You get a neat looking instrument cluster which has some fancy tricks up its sleeve. You can change its colour to white, orange, blue, red and yellow. The infotainment system is well kitted up having a nice big touch screen with good touch quality. It offers Apple CarPlay connectivity along with MirrorLink so you can seamlessly stay connected with your phone through the car. The audio quality is above average and many won’t feel the need of changing the speakers. It also offers navigation system which isn’t intuitive to use if you have a habit of using Google Maps. The big screen also doubles up as a reverse parking camera display that is very convenient in congested situations.
The best part about the cabin of the Vitara Brezza is the driving and upright seating position that adds to the confidence while driving. The steering and seat is height adjustable and has a good range so both tall and short people will find a comfortable position to drive. The large glass area ensures that the cabin feels airy despite having a dark interior theme. Maruti has offered clever storage spaces across the cabin including two gloveboxes, the upper one is a cool box while the lower glovebox is the conventional storage to keep documents and essentials. There is a front sliding arm rest with storage, front passenger side under seat storage, 1-litre bottle holder on all the doors, coat hanger, seatback pockets and hook, front cup holders, sunglass holder, rear arm rest with cupholders and more.
The seats are quite supportive and well padded for long trips. There is a good sense of space at the rear too and you have ample amount of legroom for average height adults but tall passengers might find the legroom limited to some extent. Shoulder room is decent too for three passengers at the rear. Head room is excellent, even for tall people. Maruti could have added air vents for the rear passengers but the AC works quite well and you won’t feel the need of it. The engineers have carved out excellent boot space of 328-litres in the Vitara Brezza which can accommodate your luggage for weekend getaways. The best part about luggage space is that the rear seat folds flat down and it is flexible too with 60:40 split. Some of the key features of the Vitara Brezza include cruise control, auto headlamps, auto wipers, keyless entry with push button start, reverse camera and sensors, power foldable ORVMs and more.
Maruti Vitara Brezza Performance
The same 1.3-litre diesel engine will be offered on the Vitara Brezza AMT. There will no change as far as the engine is concerned. This is a Fiat-sourced 1.3-litre diesel engine, which also does duty in several cars around the world. It is a proven engine and also the AMT is sourced from Fiat group’s Magneti Marelli. The engine makes 90bhp of power, which is pretty good.
The Maruti Vitara Brezza AMT is a five-speed unit and has more than sufficient power to make city driving comfortable and also help it cruise well on the highway. The Maruti Vitara Brezza AMT offers good driveability. This is a peppy engine, and the AMT will also have the traits of the manual version, but of course the comfort factor will be greatly increased. We will share our detailed review, once we drive the AMT version. Stay tuned to our website for more updates. The mileage of the Maruti Vitara Brezza AMT will be same as the manual version. There will be no change in this.
Maruti Vitara Brezza Rideing
The Vitara Brezza has always had a stiff ride. Though it feels like the stiffness has been reduced a bit now, it still transmits the vibes from broken roads and potholes to inside the cabin. Especially when you are driving slow, the undulations of the surface can be felt inside the cabin quite easily. Going over bumps a little faster does take the sting out a bit. This ride gets better on the highways and the body roll, especially considering the boxy shape, remains well under control. The ride remains stable even at speeds close to 120kmph. The steering is light to turn and it’s a breeze to use in the city. On the highways, it does weigh up but the feel remains a little lacking. Even the brakes are well tuned and the action is progressive and predictable
Maruti Vitara Brezza Safety
All variants of the Vitara Brezza get dual airbags, anti-lock brakes and electronic brake-force distribution and reverse parking sensors as standard. The range-topping ZDi+ gets reverse parking camera as well. Overall, the SUV does seem to have a good safety package. View offers on Maruti Cars from Maruti dealers in Hyderabad at Autozhop

Maruti Vitara Brezza Verdict
The Maruti Vitara Brezza is a game changer for the automaker as it has all the traits of becoming yet another volume spinner for the company. The price positioning is very aggressive in the segment, the amount of features on offer will woo buyers, the SUV stance is quite appealing, it has a fuel efficient motor and the Maruti badge further attracts a lot of trust on this product. The only drawbacks we could find out were turbo lag under 2000 RPM and cabin noise at high speeds. Otherwise the Brezza is a good all rounder and ticks the right boxes for different types of buyers in varying age groups. After a good while there is a serious threat to the compact SUV segment and an uphill battle for other players to keep up the volumes.
